If you had told me five years ago that I would one day create a Mini-MBA for aspiring marketers, I would’ve laughed. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t think I had the pedigree.
I wasn’t the “coaching-class” CAT aspirant.
I didn’t spend lakhs preparing.
There was no mentor, no B-school group, no weekend mock marathons.
All I had was YouTube, six months, and a stubborn mindset.
Yet, with just self-study and discipline, I cracked 86 percentile in CAT, no classes, no fancy material. And surprisingly, it worked. I received admission offers from:
- Great Lakes Gurgaon
- IMI Bhubaneshwar
- IMI Kolkata
- LBSIM Delhi
- IMT Nagpur
Each one felt like a dream… until the fee structures hit me.
Most programs were ₹15 lakhs and above, and I simply couldn’t afford them.
So I didn’t do an MBA.
Instead, I did something else: I worked.
I spent the last five years in the trenches of India’s advertising and marketing industry, executing campaigns for brands like:
- Ajmal Perfumes
- ITC Bingo!
- L&T Finance
- GIVA
I sat in rooms where strategies were shaped.
I worked with founders, CMOs, media planners, designers, and brand managers.
I saw how real marketing decisions are made, the messy, political, budget-driven, data-light, creativity-heavy world you’ll never find in an MBA textbook.
And here’s the truth no one tells you:
A lot of what makes you a good marketer cannot be learned in a classroom, but everything taught in a classroom can be learned outside it, for free, if you know where to look.
This series is my attempt to give you exactly that.
